I was having a little play about with player bases over the weekend and think I have finally managed to get them to use no resources.

As a test, I created "Brickage Station" and fully upgraded it. It all seems to be working well. You can find it near Valetta Shipyeard in Omicron Alpha. It currently sells Cloaking Devices, Jump Drives, Hyperspace Survey Modules and Docking Bays.

You can view the status of all player bases here. I also added a link to this at the bottom of the player rankings page.

Procedure for Creating a base (test)

The procedure for creating and upgrading a base is a little complex and time consuming, but I believe I have found an easier way of doing this. Basically, this will involve me "copying" Brickage Station to a system and position of your choosing - voilla! Instant base!

To try this out I will need one of you guys to fly to a system that you want a base in (and stop your ship at the exact coordinates you want the base at and give me the following details:

System Name
Exact Ship Position and Orientation (performed by typing "/pos")
Base Name
Base Password

NOTE: Since this will include a password, best to send me a PM rather than post it on the forum ;-)

...I will then see if my technique will work...

Cool i will have to look into this and decide where i want my base.

So how much will they cost and how customisable are they?  For example can you put lots of weapons on them?

I will give each of us one for free and then work out how we will do any extra ones afterwards.

Yes, you can stick weapons platforms on them, and reposition them up to 4k from your base.

Technically you can have up to 12, but that would mean no room for anything else. the platforms themselves contain about 4 really heavy weapon turrets - so they kick-ass.

Some useful guides that you should read up on:
Guide 1
Guide 2

Keep in mind that I have greatly reduced commodity usage for building additional "modules". I will post the costs up when I can.

As we will be putting up some station soon (I hope), I just thought I would post some details on some of the commodities that are important for building things for your station. I do not know the amounts you will need for each commodity as of yet (have to be at the server to check).

The information could be useful for Greg too, since if we position certain stations in safe space, Greg can be trading with our stations to a) make money for himself; and b) get the materials we require to build stuff = Everyone wins!

Commodities used in base module / item construction:

The item codes were put up for my reference.

I am also working on making Cloaks, Hyperspace Survey Modules and Jump Drives a little "cheaper" to run. I will post more when I can.

I know we played with cloaks but we never really played with jump drives did we.

I can purchase all these things from Brickage Station can't i?  Might have a look at docking bays as well.

Went to move my Battleship over to where my base is last night after 3 systems of asteroids i stopped at Omicron Gamma and thought i would do a quick mision.  A wing of bounty hunter cruisers no problem then 3 x bounty hunter battleships all destroyed i even had a few hull bots left :-).

It may handle like a stuck pig but the Gallic Battleship is just sheer awesomeness, a floating leviathan if you will.  One of the BH battleships had its sheilds knocked down by my heavy weapon group then i managed to hit it with my main forward gun and it exploded instantly with one hit is nice!

Brickage Station was only meant as a test, and will be decommissioned. So unfortunately, no.

Yeah we never really used them much because a) They take up tons of cargo space - meaning you have to sacrifice armour upgrades for them; and b) They eat tons of fuel - making them expensive to use.

Although the cargo space issue is not something I can alter, I can at least make them more viable by making them cheaper to run.

Nice. Gotta love that ship. It's one tough mother ducker.

Base issues/bugs should all be resolved now. You can safely log out whilst docked at a player base without being transported to the center of the map!

Happy days!
