I'll be getting a new PC in december (I hope)

Why not help me, by telling me what sort of spec I need (that is affordable!?!?)

No probs. Of course it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. You can get a decent machine for around £600 and an awsome machine for around £1k these days.

If it were me I would go for a 1gb (2gb preferred) Nvidia graphics card, 4gb RAM (8gb preferred). Avoid onboard graphics like the plague

As for processor, it is difficult to go wrong these days. AMD are just as good as Intel - it all comes down to where has the best deal. Ideally get a quad-core (or 6 if you can afford it) processor of at least 3ghz. Cache size of at least 3mb should do you here.

Lastly, get one with the main drive as a solid state (flash) drive, then you can plug in a huge storage HDD as your second drive for little cost.

Here are some links to some potentials to get an idea of what you are looking for:

A £1K PC.
A £600+ PC.
A £450 PC.
This site also does some decent ones that are worth a look.

One more link that may be of use is this page, which gives you a good breakdown of the differences between Intel i3, i5, i7 processors. Basically, i3 is good, i5 is very good and i7 is top-of-the-range.

If you come accross any you like the look of, post a link and I will take a look for you.

Happy hunting :-)

Now have a PC, mix of used and new bits.

Base unit with quad core (amd, but o well)and other usual bits - £150 off facebook of all places

now just got an SSD to run the operating system off of and a GTX550ti, both for just over £140 - so that's a pc sorted (almost) for about £300. Not bad me thinks..!

just gotta sort out internet and get a cradle for the ssd (its just sitting at bottom of case at the moment!)

Cool. So hopefully we will see you on soon then. Don't forget to check out Neverwinter when you are all sorted as you may like it. I also urge you to give the KSP demo a go as that is really good as well!

I will check these out when I am all up and running.

Got the cradle sorted today and also slotted in the 500gb standard drive while I was there as a bit more storage as per your suggestion.

Any ideas on where is good for cheap / decent monitors? They had a nice one in pc world for about £110....

I got a superb one from Amazon so worth checking them out and doing a bit of research before you buy. It is well worth it.

Yes definitely get an LED one. My one is a HP x2301 if that means anything to you on your search - it's a top quality monitor and a nice price. Go for something like that.
