Brickage Discovery Freelancer server is back up again! I look forward to seeing you all in-game :-)

All characters / profiles are back too - so nothing was lost in the time the server was off. How long it stays up depends on the population of the server (if anyone actually uses it).

The players online for the server is displayed under the chatbox (or above the picture of the moment when not logged in) and player rankings can be found in the link underneath.

Also picked up to copy of freelancer you did for me years ago, it seems to have the crack and everything so wouldn’t mind giving that a go at some point.

Excellent. Don't put the crack on though - Discovery Mod will not like that. After the mod has installed it has it's own one of sorts, so you shouldn't need it.

I had a quick go last night... can't wait to play it with you guys.

Ok cool so I put on Freelancer, then install discovery and I don’t need codes or anything?

Dyson didn’t seem keen but I will work on him today and twist his arm.

Yes, just install Freelancer, then install Discovery. Hopefully you shouldn't need the crack - I am sure I didn't and I don't require the CD to run it.

Does he not like space-games then?

Additional note: Check out this post for info on getting widescreen resolutions to work properly (if you require it).

Ok I am probably going to put on Freelancer tonight and try and install the mod.

Any tips on stuff to do?

Is there a campaign in the discovery mod?

There is absolutely no campaign to the Discovery Mod. It's sandbox all the way.

Okay, here is a few pointers for you to get you started with installation, configuration and general space-flight:

Installation

Once you have installed the mod, you need to configure it to "see" my server. Since (for some weird reason) they disabled this by default. Idiots. To do this add the following to "freelancer.ini", which is found in the exe folder subfolder where the Discovery Mod is.

hostname = gun.fllistserver.com ;www.fllistserver.com

NOTE: The Discovery Mod does a complete "clone" of your entire Freelancer installation and places it in your user folder - so ensure you do it in that one AND NOT the one in "Program Files"!

Getting on my server

Simply go to Multiplayer > Internet. You should hopefully then see the "Brickage" server listed. That's the one you want. Remember that your profile in single player (or other servers) DOES NOT TRANSLATE OVER. Always use my "Brickage" server whenever you play!

Once you have created a "characters" or two (you are allowed 5 characters max), let me know what their names are and I can use my admin powers to give you a little dollar as a headstart.

Playing - some newbie tips

- Get a freighter ASAP - and ensure it is on a different character to your "main" character. That way you can just switch characters to switch ships. You can always save up and get a better one later.
- Check out the Wiki. It has some really good stats and information on ships and systems - so you know where to go to buy ships, and what ones are the best.

I think Dyson has downloaded the game and is in the process of installing it, he seemed to be getting a bit confused with orders of installation and things so I have directed him here a I could not be assed to type everything you have already said in a text.

Anyway point is that we should have 3.0 of us for gameage.

Greg is there any real difference between the factions? I recall there was a British one but I am blocked from all the sites that tell me what the factions do.

It does makes a difference, in areas such as:

- Available Ships
- Friends / Enemies
- Available Weapons
- What systems you are allowed in before you get blown to pieces (related to "Friends / Enemies")
- In some cases, where you can land (related to "Friends / Enemies")

So if we are all with different factions, is that going to cause trouble?

I like the sound of that. So you can change lots of aspects of the game then?

Can do quite a bit in terms of altering a character - even to the point of "beaming" you to another location, making the full map available, altering credits, altering factions, adding and removing equipment etc etc...
