Cool. I will give it a try. Nice they got back to you so quickly.

It’s just weird that it only happens on m player. I will try resetting the router as well and see if that helps.

Cool. If you still have problems (and no-one else does - as seems to be the case), then it may be worth getting on that forum and talking to them yourself to get things resolved. He did mention this in his last post.

I might try reinstalling it onto my primary HDD. Anyway should it persist tonight, I know to save before I dock. Also as we can trade I space I can give you money to get stuff for me and transfer outside of the stations.

Sounds like a plan. And if it does persist, get on to support about it like he said so we can get it fixed.

I have posted our "findings" this weekend with regards to server problems to their tech support. We shall see what they say, although I have the strangest feeling the server program is just a little temperamental.

Well, I got the usual generic fob-off answer to my tech-support query:

jimbobslimbob
Hello again,

Thought I would update you on the problem as it stands so far.

I got the guy who was being disconnected frequently to completely uninstall and re-install the game and we tested it out a bit over the weekend. It seems that it was not just disconnecting him when he left bases (as I previously thought), this may have just been coincidence.

It also appears that he is not the only one having this problem. Players seem to just disconnect randomly at times ranging from 10 minutes up to an hour or so. Sometimes the server console even sees them re-connecting before they have "disconnected". Weird, I know.

I also found that if I connect to the server via an internal LAN address, I have absolutely no problems. If I connect to the game via the server listing then I too, am subject to these disconnections.

I know what you are thinking - it's the server's internet line. I can tell you it's not. I have been monitoring ping and speeds all over the weekend and it has been consistently good across the board. In addition, I would like to note that the server had previously hosted other games (such as Alien Swarm, Freelancer, Garry's Mod and Battlefield 2) without any issues what-so-ever.

Browsing the forums I cam across a few threads regarding similar issues but did not find a solid solution in any of them. So, I am at a loss as to where to go from here.

Is the server program just a little temperamental? Is there any way of getting more information on exactly what is happening? What should I be looking for to fix this issue?

Thank-you for your on-going help and I hope I can get this resolved soon.

Vice
I am not aware of any disconnect issues that are caused by or otherwise a result of the server program itself. Other disconnect issues have been related to unreliable internet connections (either client or server side), unreliable wireless connections, and/or ISP failures. If the problem is across the internet and not on your LAN, I would focus the search on what is happening through the various relay points in through your internet connection. Lost packets/intermittent signal loss on your internet connection would be a likely cause. The server program won't tolerate significant signal/packet loss, so it's a good place to start. Check to see if any information is displayed at a disconnect event (such as numbers in parenthesis). If so, that could provide some additional details regarding other possible causes. If no details are provided, then it's likely just an intermittent signal/disconnect issue. What wasn't a problem before may be something new with the connection. You can also sign in to any of the other servers currently running to test how your connection performs as a client with their connections.

...basically stating it's an issue with either server or client connection via the internet. I am pretty sure it's not - since we have had no problems like this with any other game hosted on the server. I think my original assumption that the server program is just a little temperamental is accurate.

As a result, I have effectively hit a buuuuuurick-wall with this problem and have absolutely no idea what I can do to mitigate it (if we even CAN do anything to fix it).

Is there a log file system that we send to them or anything? I mean if it was just me then sure I could accept that it was my connection but mark connection is shit hot.

Is there a program that can log connection speed with a time date stamp? We could then compare disconnects with connection speeds. If there was not link between connection speed and disconnects then we could at least send them that info to get them to pull their fingers out and address the actual problem.

I have been running (as always - these are always running) speed and ping tests on the server. Ping tests are every 120 seconds, speed tests are every 60 minutes. As such, I do have something to show. Other than the fact that Virgin speeds have been fluctuating a little lately, there seems to be no real visible pattern or problem to anything that is happening. I will, of course, continue monitoring this to see if I can find more out.

What I may do is next time we are all on, set up an additional monitor, running once per second - checking your connections against the server and see if that tells us anything.

Problem is, I will need your external IP addresses, plus you will have to configure your router to allow such a request (which will no doubt be the issue ;-))

Unfortunately it is difficult to say, as each router is different. I can give you some very brief ideas as to where to look, but unless I am there you will be on your own.

Log into your router using your username and password. Address is normally something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254.

Find somewhere in the router where if it is disallowing external ping requests. If it is, allow them through.

Same thing goes for you, Maximus.

You will then have to tell me your IP (this changes from occasion). Bring up a command prompt and type ipconfig. You want to external one. Let me have that and I can then begin checking.

Just realised, you may need to go to somewhere like this to get your external IP. Soz.

Well I know for sure that out Virgin "Super"-hubs have this disabled by default, so you will definitely have to do it Maximus.

Hopefully we can get some answers....

Sounds ok to me.

If any of you are on during the week I can also try it then.
