I'm sorry, the crash just caused too much damage. An overload... is inevitable at this point

Way ahead of you.

Maximus, have you allowed pinging on your router for me yet? If not, could you please do so as I want to try your connection too.

So you think this problem is something to do with virgin? If so I hope they pull their finger out and get it sorted.

Is it just bad timing that this happened whilst we started playing Evochron or has this been an issue that has just not shown itself on other games for some reason.

Cool, TCT for that Reg.

In reply to Greg:

It certainly seems that way ATM. This basically means that me and Reg can't host a game - but you (of all people ;-)), can!

It seems as if Evochron (no matter what the dev says) is a little touchy with regards to disconnections. I say this because we did not have these problems with Freelancer (or indeed, any other game). However, that is not the ONLY issue. It appears Virgin's line has not been up to scratch the last couple of weeks - which, unfortunately coincides with us starting Evochron.

From what I have been observing so far, Virgin's problems are more wide-spread, meaning Maximus is affected too (just doesn't know it yet).

I have also been checking out the Virgin forums. Surprise, surprise, it's alight with talk about this kind of thing, and may be related to planned "upgrades" they are performing on upload speeds.

O tit spank, that means I have to start a server? I suppose I could leave my internet PC on for a while if need be.

You could, but I wouldn't recommend it. Me and Mark may still get disconnections ATM anyway (until Virgin sort it out - if it IS even that), no matter what we do. I would suggest one of the following:

1.0. We join one of the other servers for now - until problems are fixed.
2.0. You simply host a game when you are on, and we join it (private game). This will mean no persistent universe though.

...as said though, it may help things, but not solve things. It's the best we can really do at the moment I think.

Well I shall give it a try. For the time being I am not sure that we really need a persistent universe. Until we start dealing with stations and stuff we are not really loosing anything.

Exactly, although I would still opt for my first choice, over you hosting (since we know your connection isn't great anyway).

I am also currently looking into changing from Virgin Media. Been looking at Sky, Plusnet, BT and Zen. All of them offer fibre-optic and I am getting a little sick of Virgin ATM. Their customer services are terrible and it seems I constantly have problems with them.

I don’t mind giving it a try, it’s just that at this early stage I could do without falling prey to some duckwit who hangs around stations blowing people up for no reason or some such.

From what I have seen, the playerbase is quite a friendly lot, I doubt you will have any big issues.

Anyone on here got thoughts on the ISP's I listed above? Good/bad experiences with them etc.

I am going to ring up Sky and see what they can offer me (what with my TV being with them too they may be able to cut me a nice deal). Apparently they do up to 76Mb/s DL and 19Mb/s UL speeds - which is better than Virgin. The upload speed is significantly more.

I would like to point out that I have absolutely no idea about anything to do with ISP’s. It is therefore prudent that any contribution I make to the impending conversation be disregarded, along with this statement.

To be honest i have noticed my connection has been a little slow sometimes of late but not enough for me to worry about just some website sites are a little slow to load. Also when streaming multiple videos it can slow down a bit oops have i said too much?

When i have moved i was going to look at moving to SKY as they now do fibre optic and as i have the TV should get a package deal especially if i threaten to quite :-)

Well there ya go then. Actually, Plusnet looks like a better deal than Sky from what I have seen so far - quite a bit better infact. Their 76/19Mbs deal is about the same price as Sky's 38/9Mbs deal.
