I think that crops can currently be grown underground. This would be something to keep in mind as we dig out rock for our building. If we can make a well lit sturdy cave and plant cops, we can seal it off after each harvest and stop the zombies walking all over it.

Well, that was a productive 7 Days session. We learnt loads of new stuff and done loads of mining and building!

I meant to ask Greg - with regards to farming: how did you get that little water hole by your farm?

I am glad you like it. There is a lot to learn in this one, and the crafting in it I think is really good.

For an alpha, it seems very "complete"; when you compare it to Space Engineers or DayZ anyway.

Relatively easy:

- Dig a hole.

- Craft a bucket (uses forging metal I think).

- Fill the bucket with water from the lake.

- Dump it in the hole.

Simples I suppose, when you look at it logically. Cool. So did you guys manage anything else after I left? Is there a plan of action for what we are working to achieve next?

Yes the zombies started digging into our mine the fuckers so we decided we need to go deeper much deeper

We started digging a stair way down into the depths we need to go down about the same again i purpose we then fan out digging rooms etc to make Moria or similar

If you go to the very end of the mine as you remember it you will see the stair way down to the left

Also put some spike traps in the entrance corridors which stops them coming in the front door nicely then when it is day time just pick them up on the way out :-)

Ah cool, I was wondering how long the mine would last before they started to bash their way through it.

So the plan is to continue to mine down then. We must have a shit load of stone for our base now :-)

Not as much as you think, I went on a bit of a stair spree which used up a bit of stone.

I think I might go back on tonight if anyone is about.

Unlikely I will be on, but I look forward to seeing your progress. The beauty of the mining is that you can do it at night without too much trouble, even on your own. Before that we were all huddled in a room re building stuff as zombies tore it down.

I might get on for an hour when i get home if i do i will continue mining down i still don't get how to do stairs though?

I think we should have a landing where we got too last night then carry on down at the reverse angle gives us a defence point if they ever get that far in

To craft the stairs:

- Put a piece of stone in each of the boxes in the crafting menu. It forms a diagonal line across the crafting box that sort of looks like steps as viewed from the side.

- When you come to deploy them, left clicking rotates the ghost ‘blueprint’ showing you which way the steps will go when placed.

- When you have the correct orientation, right click to deploy them.

So you want the steps to double back 180 from where we got to?

Ok cool i will try that

I think we should have a landing where we got to what do you think then turn 180 and carry on down or just keep going in a straight line?

How about, somewhere near the entrance we create a sort of "last stand room", like this
this

(very rough drawing). It will be larger than the other rooms, for our maneuverability, but funnel Z's into a killing zone (that we can easily traverse) so we can get 'em easy without blocking ourselves in.

@ Meg

Works for me. The only slight issue I can see is if we head back in the same direction (180) they will be digging above us and they might end up breaching the top of the stair case as it is not that deep. If we were to either carry on in the same direction or go 90 degrees to the right (if you were looking down the stairs) then they would have to dig down through all that solid rock to get to us and not beach any other rooms on the way down.

@ Jeg

Yea I like the look of that.

Yes this is what a thought for the landing tunnel out a room as a defence point but carry on the stairs down to the living quarters

I had another thought on possibly attempting to build a base in a town. Don't know how viable it is, but I think it may be worth a stab, so we can begin expanding our "empire". ;-)

- Find two houses close to eachother
- Build a walkway between the two, on the roof
- One of the two houses will operate as the base, the other purely for access to the main base (via the walkway)
- Mine out a trench surrounding the main base and fill it with spikes. Z's will fall into it and get trapped/killed. Those that survive can be easily dispatched.

See this image

for a basic illustration of what I mean.
