Well I am obviously that sort of person. My next step was to build some storage boxes and a little forge alcove near the new entrance and go on an expedition to the snow zone to see what I can find. I picked up a few snow blocks, and was wondering what (and if) you can craft/do with them.

On another note, since this new patch, it seems shotgun shells are used at a far quicker rate than before. Rather than each piece of ammo reloading the full 8(?) shells, it uses 8 pieces of stacked ammo per reload. My ammo was going down significantly faster than before the patch - so thought it was worth noting.

Yes that is a bit of a fucker isn’t it? I have reverted to the cross bow.

Crossbow is okay as a secondary, but I still prefer the shotgun as my main. We will have to look into how to get/craft all these other cool weapons we saw when we accidentally cheated. I saw Rocket Launchers, Chainsaws and all kinds of cool looking stuff.

Yea it is not the best primary but it does do a good job of conserving resource. The materials to make the crossbow and bolts are numerous and each batch is huge.

'tis true. When they bring out stealth gameplay, the crossbow may well have more of an edge over the noisy shotgun. As will knives and sharp sticks (ehem, melee weapons).

Mission Log:

I managed to forge even more iron and lead - we are swimming in the stuff now. On top of this I tried several other things:

- Found out and tried out TNT. Wow. Boom. It even allows you to collect debris that it leaves behined, so could be used for "mining operation", if you are not bothered with the mess it causes.

- Made some forges and storage boxes at the new entrance.

- I found out that you can make trunk tips - which do pretty much the same thing as wooden spikes, except they don't seem to get destroyed. As such, I propose we replace all the existing wooden spikes with these - less maintenance.

- Added a small pond underground, so we can fill up empty glass bottles and created about 150 bottles of water for our supplies with the glass jar recipe.

Had a good session on this Saturday night with the G-Man and got loads more done.
Made another, larger farm outside the house base - the other side of the road. Put a three block high wall around it with a door. Potatoes and blueberries planted there.
Also dug the trench deeper and filled it with trunk spikes, did some more mining and made a ton more bottles of water.
We noticed that any new storage boxes you make after the new update are about three times bigger in storage space too - which is very handy! :-)

The larger storage boxes are a god send. I came up with a new gatehouse type defence system that works really well against the horde. I will knock one up next time we are on.

They are indeed. What, some kind of tower? Could be worth a shot. I will be on tonight if you are around... and Wednesday and Friday this week - incase we can organise something.

I can do tonight but not Wed or Friday. The tower plan was basically a small tower in the middle of a wall and three small platforms that stick out above the wall. Sort of hard to explain better to show you.

I think I know what you are on about, as I was thinking of something like this as well. Is it anything like this very rough drawing

Cool, well if you are around tonight I will hop on 7 Days To Die and hopefully see you on then?

Not a million miles away. The problem I found with that design is that unless you are really quick the end up breaching the walls. The design in this
this

image can be put onto any perimeter wall (ideally about 4 blocks high). The idea is you move between the 3 platforms, as they follow you pop them from the overhanging platform. The distance between the platforms means they never attack the same bit of wall for too long.

Ah, I see. I imagine with any structure like that, you run the risk of wall breaches. Thickening up the walls and adding a trench will help though. Those trunk tips seem a safe bet to shove in the trenches, as they are less maintenance, but require a deeper trench.

The only thing I don't understand is why you have such a large area of "nothing" on one side of the base - unless this is to make the zombies swarm around your towers? But then, they could still breach the far walls anyway.

I toyed about with barbed wire too, but like the wooden spikes, they were prone to damage and didn't last all that long. I did notice that you can make iron walls (blocks) - which I imagine would be a lot stronger than stone. Couple this with some re-enforcing iron panels stuck on them, it could help to bolster the wall in the places they are likely to breach it.

For my next mission, I want to travel to a nearby lake (or even the desert) to pick up as much sand as I can. We can then start making Concrete, and then Reinforced Concrete - which is pretty good against zombies. Far better than stone from what I have seen.

Only thing is, sand is in short supply were we are - and we used all of the existing supplies on making glass jars for water.

Didn't seem to get much done last night, but was good fun as always. How did the spring cleaning go after I left? Did you destroy the hundreds of boxes I made? ;-)

Cool, so "3 weeks" may have been a slight over exaggeration then.

It won't. Infact, I have heard horror stories about the Superhub 2. Just look at their forum. By all accounts, it's far worse than number 1. I had heard people that were given one were demanding that Virgin give them the 1 back instead. Are you sticking with Virgin then?

After we got Dyson fucking medicine cabinet sorted out we were not on a lot longer than you.

We moved the last of the supplies from the small boxes and demolished them. There is only a small amount of organising to do now so we can continue our brass hunt.

On that note I checked the net yesterday and the only way to get brass is to scavenge it so I am not sure than making our own bullets is a good long term strategy.
