The legend continues in style - now he has a catch-phrase. We must do an origin story for him next. :-)

The combat is quite difficult. I burnt out most of my fuel just taking out one enemy fighter.

You had some luck with it didn’t you Greg? What was your approach?

Yeah I managed to do a few of the lower paid missions. Anything more than about 90k seemed too difficult. I wasted all my missiles on the first mission I did. They took out ships quite fast, but I never got round to re-filling my supply, so subsequent mission I just used lasers.

My approach was thus: shoot them until they die.

Smart arse.

I was finding that the guns ran out of energy after a single pass taking the shield down a bit, they then fly off and their shields are recharged. This seemed to go on and on until eventually enough stray shots got through the shield to blow them up.

I found that transferring power to the weapons, and re-directing remaining shield power to whatever shield is getting hit the most helped no end.

You do still run low on energy, but it's a start. I suppose ship upgrades for power and weapons would be the essential first-buys for a combat pilot.

Had a crack at flying around a planet yesterday, it is quite cool. As you enter the atmosphere you travel through some virtual guidance rings like the bit on Ailen when the Nostromo is landing.

Cool, I have yet to try that outside of the tutorial.

You can have a bit of a walk round on the planet surface apparently. Not sure what the purpose of that feature is mind.

What, so you can get out of your ship too?

Yea you get into walker things and you can piss about on the surface, I think it is for picking up crashed cargo and stuff.

Also you can have more than one person to a ship i.e. if you have a couple of turrets you can have a human gunner. That might be a laugh.

The walking around bit I have seen in a bit of a video and the gunner bit was mentioned in a starter guide. Apparently to more seasoned players take new played out as gunners to teach h them the ropes.

I managed to decipher that post after a few reads :-)

That does sound really cool. When we start upgrading our ships and stuff it is definitely one to try!

Just thought I would let you know that I am working on getting a player count for the EM server up on the front page, just like the old Freelancer one. I am unsure yet whether I want names of players listed too - as it could be a) unnecessary, b) space-consuming (if we get a decent server population).

Thoughts?

I would think names are not needed as anyone you want to play with will show up on steam or the web site. Is my opinion.

My thoughts exactly.

Will be testing this tonight when we are all on. If all goes well it should be up and running by Monday.
