Starting as the combat pilot, did you guys keep the fighter you started with or ditch it in favour of a civilian frame? The starting fighter is proper wank (mainly on fuel) and it seems to take forever to get enough military rank to get mil spec frame.

Yes, I kept it - as it was far superior to the then-available civilian frames. I still have it on my combat pilot - and am still doing well with it ATM.

Thing is, now we have access to the Starmaster via the hidden planet - that will blow most of the lower level military ships out of the water anyway.

It's now, really, only the higher level ones that would be of much use.

It’s an ok frame but the real pain is the fuel. On the really long missions I keep having to use loads of external tanks which limits the number of missiles available.

I might chop it in for a Starmaster. The one I have for my trader is a bit lumbering so I might go for the Guardian instead.

Cool, it's a Starmaster or Legacy for me I think.

From the limited amount of reading I have done on the subject, the general consensus is that the military frames are always better (at combat) than the equivalent civilian frame. But I suppose there is no harm in using a good civilian frame to get a higher rank and get a military frame.

I have seen much the same thing, but the Civillian ships are much more customisable, making them more versatile.

I don't think the military ships can alter wing or cargo capacity and can not have crew.

From what I read it is very doable to just enhance a civillian ship to similar stats - they end up not being that different.

From what i have read the military frames have more agility but do have less customization so really they are only good for combat.

Where as a civilian frame will be great for trading/mining and also pretty good for combat just lacking the manoverability so you have two characters one of each problem solved.

The only problem is you have to earn rank to purchase the military frames civilian frames require only cash.  So at some point you will probably get a resonable civ frame for your combat character to level him up easier.

You really need to put the best possible wings on big ships. My Starmaster is an absolute barge as its decked out for fast transport.

I think a slightly smaller frame would be better for a combat craft.

Diffinately i think Guardian is a good balance of armour/agility i plan to settle on this for my trader and maybe get a Venture as a mid combat frame.

Cool, glad you like. As I mentioned, it's basic, and only currently works with civilian ships, but it gets the job done. Best I could do in 20 minutes I'm afraid.

That way you can play about with loadout before you commit to buy - and work out the balance between engines, shields etc before-hand.

Charity request:

This is a plea to emperor Mark; imagine burning puppy’s, children with no food and spikes sticking out of their heads, a world in which everyone eats nothing but chees layer salads. All this can be averted by simply donating some of your vast interstellar riches to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
