Another question for you: In the "universemulti.txt" - containing all player built bases - do you have any idea what the base "type" number refers to?

I know that a type 1 = trade station, but have no idea about the others and could not seem to find this information anywhere.
That is the file for server operators and I have never looked at it.

I suggest you ask in the other forum and you will get all the help you need. Sorry!

What I do know is that when you create a quest, the stations you dock at is like follows.
1 - Trade Station
2 - Planet City
3 - Constructor
4 - Carrier

Yes another question for you, SeeJay

I know you can shift power from/to weapons/shields using the square bracket keys. My question is, is there a key binding that allows you to instantly shift, say, all power to weapons and vice-versa? Rather than having to cycle through the thing 10 times (10 key presses) to do this?

Sorry for the late replay but I had a game last night and wasn't home until midnight.

I don't think that there is an instant +/-5 key, only increase/decrease.
If you have a stick/throttle you can use a slider for it.
Or if you have a program to create macro for buttons you can make them yourself.

I use a slider on my stick!

LOL. You'll know most yourself after a while as well.

Here is one free program if you don't have any:

Autohotkey

Off the top of my head, here is an AutoHotkey script for middle mouse button do do pretty much just that - if anyone is interested:

;EM Power Toggle
MButton::
If (PowerState = "weapons")
{
PowerState := "shields"
Send {[}
Sleep, 200
Send {[}
Sleep, 200
Send {[}
Sleep, 200
Send {[}
Sleep, 200
Send {[}
} Else
{
PowerState := "weapons"
Send {]}
Sleep, 200
Send {]}
Sleep, 200
Send {]}
Sleep, 200
Send {]}
Sleep, 200
Send {]}
}
Return

I have a "welcoming letter" that I normally send to my new clan mates with some pointers.
Jumping Black Holes, combat etc.

Is this something you would like me to display here?

You might already know some of it tho.

This is pointers to get you up to speed regarding clan stuff and basic skills needed.

Clan Systems in MP:
Add [clan] to your profile name. (When selecting profile, rename first. Mine is: [HB] SeeJay).
When doing contracts with clan tag on, you affect systems by
decreasing % control in another clan controlled system and increase
% control in clan systems.
Check control in Nav (F1) and Quadrant. Your clan is green.
When controlling more than 70% in a system all clan members get paid 101000
for each cycle and system. Control % is freezed when a clan member is online.
When offline, it decreases. To reduce decrease rate we build stations.
Name stations with [clan] Name. The more stations we have, the slower decrease rate.
We maintain about 15 stations in each system. Max is 50/system.
To quickly raise % in a system, do delivery contracts.
Do not do any contracts in another clans systems without approval from that clan.
(Unless you want to take it and start a war)
Exceptions are: IMG quest, helping another pilot and warzones.
Doing contracts in another clans system might be considered a hostile action!

BlackHole jumping:
Jump to the sector south of where the BH is.
Heading 0 and Pitch 0.
Energy boosted to shields.
Right click on the BH to set jumppoint.
SAVE.
Since you come out of a jump slightly before the jumppoint set, you need to adjust it.
Manually add 500 to the Z coord in nav console (F1). Not the SZ coord.
Jump and add afterburner right away.
If you die, reload and add 1000 to the Z coord and jump again.
Repeat this until you get through. The compensation (Z) added might be different
for different BH:s (It might require up to several thousands in adjustment).

Combat:
Deploy a Sensor. (Jump in deploy and jump out of range)
Stay out of the range of it until engaging/repairing (The enemy can use it to).

Combat Tactics:
1 v 1:
Use Inertia mode.
Boost shields to front.
Always point nose at enemy.
Never fly directly at him, set course slightly off center and strafe.
Use Lasers to bring shields down and then switch to guns.
Use guns in bursts. That increases the damage.
Use missiles if necessary in close range. (Less respond time).
If he/she is a good fighter, target the weapons first, then engine.
Always be in motion.
Always have an escape navpoint set before engaging.

1 v 2:
Same as 1 v 1.
Try to have both enemies in front of you in a line.
Never let 1 in behind you when facing the other.
Concentrate on taking out 1 target at a time.

1 v 3 or more:
Same as 1 v 1.
Same as 1 v 2.
Fly in great circles around the group to split them up.

When Fighting as a group:
Set a combat leader.
He uses the combat comands.
Fly in a pair with a wingman defending lead if necessary.
If there is only 1 target, all engages.
If there are multiple targets wingman defends (watch the 6) and lead engages if threat level is high.
Or take 1 target each if the threat level is low.

Other hints:
Earn cash quickly by trading.
Buy at a station you have a licence at (20% discount) and sell where you don't have a licence.
The more expensive stuff, the more you earn / trade run.
FT:s are great and I store all installed equipment I don't need for trading.
Military Ship:
Gives me 5 equipment slots to use as cargo bay and 1 cargo bay and 8 missile slots for trading.
Civil Ship:
Gives me 5 equipment slots to use as cargo bay and 8 cargo bays and 8 missile slots for trading.

Enjoy!

Cool, thanks.

Ah - so that explains these system payments we have been getting - it is down to clan control of the quadrant. Cool.

Sure thing.

Here (in the Tools section) you have a Excel Weaponslab to play with:
WeaponsLab

All weapons/missiles are created using the following resources:
Electrical
Metals
Machinery
Fusion (Not for missiles)

My weapons are Fusion ones. All created weapons have a kinetic effect.
That is an advantage in PvP (Especially if your opponent doesn't have that kind of weapon)

What kind of weapon you want depends on how you fight. My suggestion is that you
test each category and see how they work for you. Take notes of the slider settings
before you buy/create it because the naming of the weapons is a bit weird.
You'll know what I mean when you see it yourself. It's hard to know what kind of weapon
you have installed by looking at the name alone. (Impossible)

I normally go for long range with my weapons.

Enjoy!

Jim's tip of the day: Mine metal, go to one of your constructor stations and you can turn the metal into Machinery - for use when building weapons ;-)

Not sure about that but i doubt it.

On another note, I have successfully made it to Riftspace and the Sol system. I also built a few stations there and took a walk on Mars with a walker :-)

No you can't.

All storage cost wherever you store it.

Is it possible to land on Earth? I have tried a few times but keep getting shot down by the defense ring.

The short answer is NO!

I've tried for years!

Some pilots claims that it is possible nad say that you should think outside the box.
I asked if it required some modding/tinkering with any files and they can't give me a
straight answer.

So, my conclusion is that it is possible if you make some kind of change to a file or
add something to make it possible. In my book it is cheating if it can't be done with a clean
install! I stopped trying a long time ago and will never do it again.
