That's a shame :-( O well, still felt cool landing on Mars and such.

Thanks for letting me know though, as I would probably have been trying for ages and getting nowhere!

Greg asked me about black holes in another thread, but I am posting my reply here to keep it with all out tips:

How to Navigate Black Holes

1. Get into the vicinity of a black hole, but give it a wide birth - the gravity begins to pull you in otherwise.
2. Hover over the black hole in your map and type in the exact coordinates into your destination X, Y, Z.
3. Add 2800 to the Z coordinate of the black hole (this is how far back a jump drive puts you, roughly).
4. Face a heading of EXACTLY 0, to ensure you will exit the jump facing the right direction and enter the black wormhole exactly. Also level out so you are at roughly 0 on your Y axis too. This will ensure you come out of the jump at the right angle and place.
5. Put all power to shields.
6. Engage jump drive, and pray.

My trips were still damaging my hull by about 80%, but you will make it through. I highly recommend you bring a C3 Repair System to fix your ship on the other side, as some of the systems (like Andromeda) have no bases and you can't build your own there either.

Jim's tip of the day:

The HUD modifications, provided to us by SeeJay do indeed work. As we are rocking the Steam version of the game though, they need to go in the Steam\steamapps\common\Evochron Mercenary\hud folder, rather than the other one.

Also, the superb Evometrics program (which I finally got working) works in a similar way - and requires the Steam folder to save the modified settings file. Those with dual (or more) monitors will love this, as you can have a live galaxy map on one monitor, the game on the other :-)

Any chance of a Greg-proof guide to the dual monitor thing?

I'm glad you got it working.

Are you aware that if you activate the "Tracker" it will plot your current location
on the map as well? (Settings path should point to the "savedata.txt" file in your game folder.)

Also, the tab "Carrier Data" shows some info regarding your ship. Fuel, shields etc.

If you have 2 monitors, all you need to do is drag the Evometrics program to that monitor.

I noticed that, yes. It's pretty awesome! I will be interested to see what he comes up with for the next version.

I will try my best:

1. Download and install EvoMetrics from here.
2. Create (if one does not exist) a file called "savedatasettings.txt" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\evochron mercenary\"
3. In the file, ensure the top line reads "3000" - (without quotes) this is the update time in miliseconds - so 3000 is 3 seconds.
4. The second line should read "c:\sw3dg\EvochronMercenary\" - without quotes. Then leave a blank line and save.
5. Open up EvoMetrics (sling it on your other monitor) and then start Evochron. Once in the game, EvoMetrics should then update the live map automatically if you activate "Tracker"!

This is all off the top of my head - I will have to confirm the "savedatasettings.txt" file when I get home and look at mine.

All charted systems and all found hidden systems (hundreds of them)
In systems you have all the planets, asteroid fields, caves, containers, stations etc.

It also plots you position like a GPS in real time.

You can also add new systems you find to your locally stored database. (Will not be visible to
others until you report your findings to me so I can add them to the online DB)

No player-build stations will be added to the online DB since they can be destroyed!
